Management Development and Core Business Skills in the UK and Northern Ireland within the earth movers industry

The Customer

Finning UK is part of Finning International – the worlds largest dealer of Cat® machines, engines, equipment and power solutions. They boast a proven track record in delivering solutions to a diverse range of industries.

The Vision

  • To be the most effective and efficient organisation in their industry.
  • To move the leadership model from transactional to transformational.
  • To improve morale and in turn engagement.
  • To have empowered management teams who are able to make good decisions.
  • To create greater levels of accountability and ownership.

The Discovery

We have worked with Finning for approximately five years and during that time we have delivered several business-impacting development programmes including coaching, employee engagement and induction.

Finning chose us as their partner to deliver their management development programme based on the positive impact our previous work with them had on their organisation, in fact Finning has already requested we deliver this programme again to a new cohort based on its success.

The Process

We completed a diagnostic with a number of focus groups representing different parts of the organisation.

We developed a wider understanding of the development needs and expected outcomes from the management development programme to enable us to deliver a bespoke solution that fits the organisational need.

We introduced Instep’s style and approach to the participants of the groups during a launch session to enable us to tailor our delivery to ensure motivated learners.

The Solution

  • Designed a programme of development in partnership with Finning
  • Linked the design to the Finning Leadership Charter ensuring that this underpinned the development approach
  • Designed and delivered a four module programme with one module being delivered each month
  • Developed action plans as part of each workshop to support the transfer of learning and achievement of the measurable outcomes
  • Measured success through layered confirmation, feedback and end of programme reviews.

“Instep were invited in initially as a supplier of Business Skills Training. Through Mel our Account Manager and Facilitators like Paula and Gina, Instep skilfully got to know and understand the “DNA” of Finning and quickly became part of our training family.
As a consequence we extended the range of work they did with us to produce our much lauded Management & Leadership Programmes, Managing Others & Prepare to Take the Lead Gaining credibility with our organisation is key to acceptance, and Instep have gone over and above in that regard.
Whenever we have a new requirement, like Mentoring for our Apprentices, Developing Service Controller Excellence or Welcome to Finning Induction Instep have been my first port of call. They are engaging, understanding, innovative, fun and great value and have certainly managed to make real differences in some key areas for us. I look forward to continuing our relationship with them into 2016 and beyond.
